Report on the Condition of Displaced People and the Status of the Pretoria Agreement Implementation:
Your Excellencies, Ambassadors of the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Italy, France, Denmark, and the European Union,
It is an honor to address you today on this urgent matter concerning the displaced people of Western Tigray and neighboring regions. I deeply appreciate your presence and attention.
Today, I present to you a grave humanitarian crisis and the concerning lack of progress in implementing the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
Over one million displaced Tegaru from Western Tigray, Irob, Zalambesa, and other parts remain in makeshift camps as IDPs in Tigray and refugees in neighboring Sudan. These people are facing severe hardships, including starvation, disease, and absence of essential services. Education has been disrupted for thousands of children, and many young people are in despair due to the unforeseable future.
The Pretoria Agreement, which initially came as a beacon of hope, has not yet produced any meaningful result to our people. The responsible parties mainly the Ethiopian Government have not made any tangible efforts to implement the agreement, nor did the TPLFand TIRA do their roles to ensure the safe return of the displaced people.
To make it worse, Amhara militias remain entrenched in Western Tigray, further destabilizing and exacerbating the condition in the area, when their withdrawal by the Federal government was clearly stated in the Pretoria Accord.
Thus, Your Excellencies, we the displaced people of Tigray kindly appeal for urgent action.
First, we urge the Ethiopian Government and TPLF/TIRA to fully honor their commitments under the Pretoria Agreement and facilitate the immediate, safe return of displaced people.
Second, we call upon the UK, USA, EU and your respective governments to exert decisive pressure on the signatories to uphold their obligations and protect millions of lives from danger of extinction.
The systematic ethnic cleansing of Tegaru and the looming threat of extinction must not be met with silence. We implore you to use your influence to bring about justice and stability.
Thank you again for your time and attention.
